The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre has issued a Marine Threat Tsunami Warning for the Lakes Entrance, 60nm east of Gabo Island including Mallacoota as a result of an volcanic eruption of HUNGA TONGA-HUNGA HA’APAI at 3:10 PM AEDT on Saturday 15 January 2022 near TONGA ISLANDS [latitude 20.54S, longitude 175.38W].
– The tsunami is expected to affect the marine environment at Lakes Entrance to 60nm east of Gabo Island including East Gippsland Coast from 9:30 pm [AEDT] Saturday will continue for several hours.
– In areas with a threat to the marine environment only, the Victoria State Emergency Service advise people to get out of the water and move away from the immediate water’s edge of harbours, coastal estuaries, rock platforms and beaches.
If you are located in the water, or at waters edge along from Lakes Entrance to 60nm east of Gabo Island including East Gippsland Coast, you are in danger. You should move immediately to higher ground. Do not go to the coast to watch the tsunami.
